I am sure at this point you had heard me mentioned something vaguely about a secret closet idea.
Well here it is, listen carefully as this recording will automatically self destruct at its conclusion..
Your mission is to build the perfect closet, the one that have haunted your dreams all these years. The one full of wonderfully fashionable clothes, beautifully lit with a cute ottoman that let you admire yourself in the built in antique mirror. Impossible you say? Not with us on the job!
There will be a new episode each week where we show you step by step, how to turn a normal regulation sized New York City closet into a minor miracle. And each show, we will also give you a new mission, so you can follow along on our quest for the shangri-la of storage solution, the dream closet!
In This week’s episode; Hsiang, Guido and Alexandra talk about their plan for the Dream Closet Project.
Not just the Dream Closet project, but also about architecture and design in general. That and style, fashion, people that dress like kids, geeks and sex, shopping habits of men verses women, and a slew of other fun stuff. We promise you won’t be disappointed. We created this idea with Alexandra from AlexandraStylist.com, we hope you’ll enjoy our closet renovation adventure!
Your First Dream Closet Mission- Confront your enemy!!
We would like to ask that you post a picture of your closet as it is Right Now! Just as it is! We like to call this step; admitting that you are powerless in the face of chaos- that your closet has become unmanageable. We also like to know what you like and what you don’t like about your closet. Please post your response in the common below!
Don’t forget, we are also looking for submission on the name we should use for our project. So let us know if you have any ideas!

Hmmm.. Very interesting, lots of potentials! It looks like the inside width is quite a bit wider then
the door opening no?

Thanks for the reply Hsiang! Yes it is a bit wider, just 30 ” to the right and left. I have some some ugly boxes and my snowboard in that space. I would need more space, what dp you think we can do!

Here are two pics of my closet. The sun bleaching is a pain, but BFD… at least I can walk into it. 100 watt lightbulb (for nighttime) in a closet that has 2 windows (for daytime) is sometimes too much light. There used to be a bicycle hanging on that hook by the window and a shelf.

My closet is in the kitchen pantry as you can see its a wardrobe disaster! Unfortunately living in a one bedroom apartment in NY this was the largest closet in the entire place. However i do have lots of designer goodies in there, unfortunately they are all crammed in and stacked on top of each other which is not good for my CHANEL’s and Lanvin’s.
I do purge a lot of un-used items every two seasons so everything that you see in there just needs to be organized properly. I did have a light fitted in there but it doesn’t work now needless to say neither does the shoe rack!

Is the closet deeper then its wide? Its curious to see the hang rod perpendicular instead of side way like most closets! What happen to your shoe shelfs in the last picture?

So I think i might have a relatively big closet for NYC standards, but as you can see its overflowing and I cant seem to purge. The things I like about it is that I have both shelving and hanging. But the shelving gets messy because everything is just folded and stacked. (and since I’m not Suzie Homemaker, the “folded” piles end up, um, not so folded. Its considered a “success” if the clothes even make it in the closet)
I also would like to thing of a better system to store my shoes. The “Floor Piling” method doesnt really keep the shoes in best form and it also gets dusty if I don’t use my winter boots in the summer.
For lighting, I currently have a halogen uplight floor lamp that lights the room. I also strung Christmas lights behind that closet framing which give it a nice glow, but I get too lazy to plug it in.
I also store old photo albums, wigs, hats and costumes on the top shelf.
In addition, I have adapted the back of my bathroom door for handbag storage. (Stoop sale anyone?) I need to be able to open my bathroom door

As can be clearly seen I have a HUGE issue with “Rat Packing” so “The Dream Closet Project” (This title is a winner BTW) is a dream come true. When my mentor, Sean (Hsiang) (didn’t know I called you that right
told me about this amazing way to clear clutter and get a free flowing space I was thrilled at the invitation to participate.
I am presently charting my path for the next 6 months so this process will help me to choose what is really necessary to take on that journey.
I want to first get rid of travel bags (carrying cases of all descriptions) that I have sentimental value to but may not serve in managing this expensive real estate called my “master closet” …Sorry for the side view – had no clue how to change that
Thank you Hsiang and Guido for this amazing opportunity to go light, airy, and practical

I have the dream space for a closet but it’s not being properly utilized. Within the space are three 40″x25″x86″ brown wardrobes. You can see the top of one of wardrobes. On top of that, my boyfriend (the neat but impractical nut but I love him dearly and don’t want to burst his inner designer spirit) set up racks on top of the closet for my shoes, which I have to climb a step ladder to get to my shoes. I’ve also provided a picture that shows what the wardrobes look like when the doors are open. I’m frustrated with the double rows because most of my things are long and need to hang. Then there’s the ugly stack crates I also have against the facing wall. These hold all of my purses, jewelry, and more shoes. I love my space but not the layout. I would love to remodel it at some point. Looking forward to hearing your tips – thx!
